C4- Short Term Training for Students - Celebrating the Holy Spirit in Portugal - Azores


Working Days: 10th to 14th June


Programme


10th & 11th June are the most relevant days of the celebration of the Holy Spirit. Due to that fact, Monday is a Regional Holiday and as a coincidence, this year, it is also the National Holiday. schools will be closed but the students will have the chance to participate in the celebrations together with the host families. These are communitarian celebrations and everyone is involved.


During these two days, guest students are invited to register on video and photo what they consider relevant for the work that will be developed during the 3 days in schools. Host students and their families will assist their guests elucidating them about the celebrations.


10th June -  Monday
  • Students and teachers to register in photo and video the different activities they will be integrated by their hosts.
  • Teachers and students will visit some meaningful cultural and natural areas around Pico Island.
  • Visit to some important geosites of the Azores Geopark on the island of Pico.


19:30 - (For teachers) - Welcome dinner at Fernando’s house

11th June - Monday


  • Students and teachers to register in photo and video the different activities they will be integrated by their hosts.
  • Attending the religious ceremonies on Madalena. The coronation in church, the processions and the shared traditional Holy Spirit lunch.
  • Visiting the Nature Reserve of Pico island and getting to know its fauna and fauna.
  • The cultural value of the landscape - The mountain working as a weather forecast tool.
  • The aesthetic value of the volcano and its mark on the surrounding islands.
  • The wetlands of Pico island and their importance in terms of biodiversity.

12th June - Wednesday


8:30 - Welcome session - Conference room
9:00 - Presentation of the videos prepared by the foreign teams on some sort of religious or pagan celebration in their countries.
9:30 - Presentation by the Portuguese National Agency representative.
9:45 - Visit to the school facilities - guided by the students
10:00 - Teachers and students to meet in Room 1.9 - Working groups and tasks will be announced - Students to prepare a video on the Holy Spirit Celebration. First working session. (In between - coffee break)


13:00 - Lunch


14h30 - Minibus trip to Calhau (Fernando/Susana) - Pedestrian Trail of “Criação Velha’s Vineyards”. Bring comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Hosts should provide a snack.


16h30 - Back to school and students with their hosts.


19:00:Teachers will be picked up and taken to Fonte Cuisine Restaurant.Free night for teachers

13th June - Thursday
8:20 - Ss. work on their projects. Coordinators meeting.
13:00 - Lunch
14:30 - “Let’s learn some facts about Madalena” - Guided tour by host students
  • Wine Cooperative
  • Statue of Gilberto Mariano
  • Church of Madalena
  • Town Hall; Garden of “Maroiços” and Library
  • Wine Museum
17:00 - Back to school - Students with their hosts


Free night for teachers


14th June - Friday


8:20 - Students to complete their video projects until 10:00


10:15 - Trip to Lajes to visit the “Whalers Museum”.
11:30 - Lajes - São Roque
13:30 - Lunch at Lajido
14:15 - Visit to the rural agglomerate of Lajido
15:00 - Visit to the rural agglomerate of Cachorro
16:00 - Back to school where students and teachers will prepare the students room for the farewell dinner.


20:00 - Video presentations and closing session
20:30 - Dinner prepared by the host families.
21:30 - Folk dances

22:30 - The End
